The manuscript Planetarum et Asteriscorum Coeli figurae et Virtutes Astronomicae from the 14th century is a unique astronomical compendium. Originating in France, it comprises 24 pages (15.5 × 11 cm) featuring 43 elaborate, colored illustrations of constellations, planets, and celestial phenomena.
The unknown author was an educated astronomer and astrologer, whose work combines scientific knowledge with impressive book art. Inspired by the famous Aratea, the manuscript includes Ptolemaic constellations, weather phenomena, and tables of the twelve zodiac signs. Today, it is preserved in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.
