This monumental work from the 16th century showcases over 500 lovingly colored city views from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the New World across six volumes. Published by the Cologne scholar Georg Braun and illustrated by the engraver Frans Hogenberg, it impressively documents the medieval urban landscape before the devastations of the Thirty Years' War.

The editions from 1576 and 1582 include views of Jerusalem, Damascus, Wittenberg, Mexico City, and Cusco – complemented by scenes of daily life, costumes, coats of arms, ships, and carriages. Braun provided well-researched and entertaining texts about geography, history, and economy for each city.
