The Civitates Orbis Terrarum is a unique masterpiece of the 16th century: a six-volume collection of magnificently colored city views from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the New World – created between 1572 and 1618.

Published by the Cologne theologian Georg Braun and illustrated by the Flemish engraver Frans Hogenberg, the work showcases medieval cities as they existed before the devastations of the Thirty Years' War – including Venice, Lyon, Mexico City, and Cusco.
